Course Objectives
In this course we will
- Examine the wide range of fan video forms, aesthetics, cultures, and histories
- Unpack and analyze the visual and rhetorical logics of fan videos
- Interrogate legal and cultural debates surrounding fan video practices
- Engage with scholarship on fan video and perspectives of fan video authors
- Learn the tools of fan video making (visual and audio editing)
- Learn through practice: through vidding exercises with specific guidelines, we will make videos in a variety of fan video aesthetics and genres.
- Reflect on our creative processes and connect these with our studies of scholarship on fan video
